Frequently asked questions
What documents are needed to apply for the UAE digital nomad visa? +
You'll need proof of remote employment (employment contract, employer letter, or registration of a business abroad), 6 months of bank statements, medical insurance covering the UAE, and a passport. The exact list depends on whether you're an employee or a business owner, as well as your family composition.
How long does the whole visa process take? +
The entry permit is usually issued within a few business days. After that you need to enter the UAE and complete a medical exam, biometrics, and get your Emirates ID — allow about two more weeks for this.
Can I move to the UAE with my spouse and children? +
Yes. Once the primary applicant is approved, a spouse and children can be added to the application to get resident status for the family for the same period. The document package and total budget are calculated separately in that case.
How does getting the Emirates ID work? +
After entering the UAE, the applicant undergoes a medical exam, gives biometrics, and completes the resident visa process. After that, the Emirates ID is issued — a resident card needed for renting housing, banking services, and everyday matters within the country.
Do I need to live in the country permanently? +
You don't need to live in the country permanently, but you cannot stay outside the UAE for more than 6 months in a row, or the resident status is cancelled.
Can the UAE digital nomad visa be renewed? +
Yes. The programme is issued for 1 year and can be renewed if you still meet the requirements for remote employment, income, and supporting documents at the time of renewal.
Does the UAE digital nomad visa lead to permanent residency or citizenship? +
No. The Virtual Work Residence visa is issued for a year and is renewable, but does not lead to permanent residency. For long-term residency there is a separate programme — the Golden Visa for 5–10 years.
