The Centre Pompidou, one of the key cultural landmarks in Paris, will temporarily close from 2025 to 2030. This, the largest renovation in the museum's history, is aimed at modernising the building and improving conditions for visitors.
Built in 1977, the complex is known for its bold architectural design, with utilities and services placed on the outside of the façade. However, after nearly 50 years in operation, it needs substantial upgrades. The renovation work includes improving building systems, ensuring compliance with modern safety standards, and expanding accessibility for people with disabilities.
According to a statement from the administration, the closure is necessary to prevent further deterioration of the building and to improve comfort for visitors. During this period, the museum's collections will be temporarily housed at other institutions in France and abroad.
Once the renovation is complete, the Centre Pompidou is expected to reopen with upgraded infrastructure and improved exhibition spaces, allowing it to remain one of Europe's leading cultural centres.
