Vietnamese authorities have announced the upcoming launch of a new long-term visa programme aimed at attracting wealthy foreigners, investors, and highly skilled professionals. The initiative is expected not only to strengthen the country's standing as an investment destination but also to give an additional boost to the economy and tourism.
Visa for investors and professionals: key parameters
Amid steady economic growth, Vietnam is looking to capitalise on rising interest from foreign nationals. Three types of visas will be available under the new programme:
- \n
- A golden visa valid for 5 to 10 years with the option to renew. \n
- A 10-year investor visa, offering a simplified path to permanent residency after 5 years. \n
- A talent visa for specialists in promising industries, issued for 5 years with a straightforward renewal process. \n
Applications will be able to be submitted entirely online — no in-person consulate visit will be required. At the same time, visa rules for short-term tourist and business trips are being simplified: the process has become faster, more accessible, and fully digital.
Why Vietnam is gaining popularity
Alongside attractive investment opportunities, the country is betting on a comfortable living environment. Major cities, including Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, and Da Nang, combine a rich cultural life with high-quality services, developed infrastructure, and international educational institutions. This makes Vietnam an appealing destination for long-term residence.
Tourism as a strategic priority
Developing tourism remains one of the government's key priorities. From January to March 2025, Vietnam welcomed more than 7.67 million foreign visitors, up 23.8% year-on-year. China and South Korea account for the bulk of arrivals, followed by Taiwan, the US, and Japan.
Among European countries, growth in inbound tourism has been especially notable from the UK (+20.7%), France (+24.7%), and Germany (+18.8%), helped by the visa-free entry policy.
Vietnamese authorities intend to actively promote the country abroad and are already preparing large-scale advertising campaigns to reach their ambitious goal of attracting 22 to 23 million foreign tourists by the end of 2025.
