Georgia launches C5 digital nomad visa

Georgia is introducing a new C5 visa category for foreigners who want to live in the country and work remotely for a foreign employer, foreign clients, or a business based outside Georgia. Officially, the authorities don't call it a digital nomad visa, but in substance that's exactly what it is.

The visa suits freelancers, entrepreneurs, consultants, employees of foreign companies, and other professionals who can work from Georgia without entering the local labour market.

C5 will be multiple-entry. It can be issued for up to 5 years, with a stay in Georgia of up to 1 year per entry. The main applicant's spouse and minor children will also be able to apply.

Processing is planned through the e-VISA system. The visa will be electronic, with a $300 fee. The standard processing time is 5 business days, up to 10 business days if additional checks are required.

This is an important change for applicants, as remote work in Georgia gains a distinct legal status and is no longer stuck in a grey area between tourism, visa-free stay, and a regular work visa. This matters especially for those planning to live in the country longer than a typical trip who want to understand their legal basis for staying in advance.

Some requirements remain unclear for now. The full document list, minimum income, and rules for confirming activity have not yet been disclosed. For applicants, the key will be to confirm that their work and income are tied to a foreign market, not to Georgian employers or local clients.
