Russia and Jordan agree on visa-free travel for up to 30 days

Russia and Jordan have signed an agreement abolishing visas for short-term trips. Citizens of both countries will now be able to travel visa-free for up to 30 days per trip, with total stay not to exceed 90 days within a year.

Previously, Russians entered Jordan on a visa on arrival, which cost 40 dinars (about $56) and was valid for a month. For Jordanians, travelling to Russia was even more complicated — it required applying to a consulate and providing an invitation along with a package of documents. The new arrangement significantly simplifies the process for both sides.

The agreement was concluded amid growing tourism appeal for Jordan. In the first two months of 2025, tourism revenue there rose by 16.3% to $1.28 million, and the number of tourists increased by almost 19%. Spending growth was especially notable among the Jordanian diaspora (up 12%) and American tourists (up 15%).

Russia is also introducing new rules for travellers. From 2025, a 1% tourist tax has been introduced, which will rise to 3% by 2027. In addition, from 30 June 2025, foreigners entering Russia visa-free will need to fill in an electronic form in the RuID app in advance, no later than 72 hours before arrival. The form requires passport details, a photo, and trip details, after which a QR code is generated for presentation at the border, where biometric data will also be collected.

The new visa-free regime opens up additional opportunities for short trips and makes travel to Russia and Jordan more accessible.
